For me it would be hard to say my best day in education. With my Science Olympiad kids it was when we attended a National Invite at Wright State and my kids who worked on Crime Busters were amazing. They had really been working hard identifying unknown powders in ziplock bags. Over the months I spend hours each week stuffing tiny ziplock bags with the unknowns (salt, sugar, baking soda and others). We practiced at school every Wednesday nights from 7-9 plus they took stuff home. They won first place and best the national champs in the event. At that point they started jokingly calling me their dealer. They are all in college now and we still keep in touch.
In my classroom, my best day was two days ago. This year we have a very challenging group. We got the students engaged in discussion and did a demonstration of convection currents using food coloring in water in a fish tank. When the red was dropped in over a flame under the tank they all gasped as the red rose quickly. Then we dropped blue in the ends and again they were all making very positive comments as the saw how much slower the blue moved and how it didn't rise unless it was drawn towards the center over the flame. I enjoyed it because every child was engaged, participated and behaved.
