Best Day Ever!

My best day ever in education...

As an educator we have rough days but the amount of days where we are able to reach kids and change their day or their outlook outnumber any bad day. I love teaching because I can make connections with my students and help them to change their outlook on life or provide them with the support they need.

One day of each year that always stands out to me as being the best day is our field trip to the cultural markets around the city. This is especially important to me because it is a chance for students to see the cultural diversity around them and become more understanding of people who are different than them. They get to see how much diversity is in our city and get out of the suburbs for just one day. I love seeing students faces when they return back to school with everything they have purchased.

Once back at school, students complete an assignment where they look at recipes of food they love and find where each ingredient comes from. This helps them to see that not everything is made or grown locally. It takes several others around the world to make things possible.

Through diversity we are stronger!
