A Best Day in Education

All educators in the United States experienced a complete shut down last year including my school district.  This was very scary for our students, parents, and teachers.  At first in our district it was just an extended Spring Break and then it moved to just a month.  However, it ended up being the rest of the school year.  As teachers we had to come in and pack up our students books and send home Chromebooks for those students who did not have technology at home.  Once everything was packed up the parents could drive through and pick up their child's stuff so that they could complete learning from home.  Then the real fun began as a teacher, trying to figure out how to teach second graders 100% through Google classroom.  I learned how to record video lessons and link videos found online, post assignments through Google Docs and even use a Google Form to give a test.  This was a whole new world for myself and my students as we were all learning how to do these things for the first time.  Now don't get me wrong I had a Google classroom prior to this and we did some activities through it, but not to the extent that we were now working on it.  However, as everyone in our country survived, we did too and it worked out, but boy did I miss my students! 

Now I am getting to the BEST DAY IN EDUCATION!  At the end of the school year we were trying to come up with a way to celebrate with our students and decided on a parade through the parking lot.  All of the teachers made signs congratulating the students on making it through the rest of the year and we had a little gift for all of the students.  At this point they could also drop off any books or Chromebooks that needed returned.  This parade was the Best Day of the year.  Getting to see all of my kids again and celebrating with them briefly was the best feeling in the world!  The kids were so excited and so were all of the teachers and staff!  Fortunately, this school year we have been able to be in person the entire year and it has felt so good to be teaching in front of my students!
